Moses Rejected by His Own People
Acts 7:17–29 centers on moses rejected by his own people. As the promise time approaches, Israel multiplies in Egypt under a new king. Moses is born, raised in Pharaoh’s household, powerful in words and deeds, and at age forty tries to intervene for an oppressed Israelite. His own people reject his authority, and he flees to Midian.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. Stephen emphasizes the irony of rejected deliverance: 'Who made thee a ruler and a judge?' becomes the sentence that will be repeated after God later sends Moses as ruler and deliverer. Human rejection does not cancel divine vocation.
