Jesus Names Balaam’s Teaching before Balak
Revelation 2:12–17 addresses Pergamum through Christ’s sharp two-edged sword and confronts compromise with idolatry and sexual immorality. The promises of hidden manna, a white stone, and a new name gather wilderness-provision, covenant-faithfulness, and new-identity imagery. The passage calls the church to resist accommodation even where loyalty to Jesus is costly.
Jesus says Balaam taught Balak to cast a stumbling block before Israel involving idol food and sexual immorality, supplying inspired interpretation that connects Balaam with the Peor apostasy.
Second Peter and Revelation both invoke Balaam as a warning pattern for corrupt teaching that compromises God’s people. The approved evidence supports the relationship at its existing confidence level without strengthening it into a quotation or fulfillment claim the text does not make.
