More Honor and More Money Cannot Change YHWH’s Word

Balak sends more prestigious princes and promises greater honor. Balaam says he cannot go beyond YHWH’s word even for a house full of silver and gold. YHWH permits him to go only under the condition that he speak what God gives him.

Test the Tradition: later Islamic commentary sometimes identifies the unnamed figure in Qur’an 7:175–176 as Balʿam/Balaam, while the Qur’anic verse itself does not name him and classical tafsir also preserves alternative identifications. This is important reception history, not independent proof of Balak, the donkey, or the Numbers narrative.
