Abijah’s Confrontation with Jeroboam
2 Chronicles 13:1–12 forms the movement “Abijah’s Confrontation with Jeroboam.” In the eighteenth year of Jeroboam, Abijah became king of Judah and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. War broke out between Abijah and Jeroboam. Standing on Mount Zemaraim, Abijah addressed Jeroboam and all Israel, reminding them of God’s covenant with David that his descendants would reign forever. He rebuked Jeroboam for rebelling against Solomon’s son and for appointing false priests to serve idols, unlike the Levites who served in Judah. Abijah declared that Judah had the Lord as their God, with priests offering sacrifices and maintaining the temple service faithfully. This confrontation highlights the contrast between true worship and false worship.
