Holy Contributions Given to the Priest
Offerings that Israelites bring as holy contributions become the priest’s portion. These two verses are brief, but Numbers 18 later expands the same principle into a fuller system of priestly support. The sanctuary community is sustained by gifts that are treated as belonging first to YHWH.
Numbers 5 says holy contributions brought to the priest belong to him; Numbers 18 later gives the fuller priestly-due system, assigning holy gifts to Aaron and his sons. The later chapter expands a brief priestly-rights statement into the fuller covenant support system for Aaron’s house.
