Paul as a Gospel Father: Imitate Me as I Imitate Christ
Paul shifts from irony to family language. He is not trying merely to shame the Corinthians; through the gospel he became their spiritual father. That relationship explains why he can urge them to imitate him and why he sends Timothy to remind them of his ways “which be in Christ.”
The imitation theme will return in 11:1: “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” Paul never makes himself the endpoint. Apostolic imitation is legitimate only because his pattern is meant to direct believers toward Christ.
Aha: 1 Corinthians does not solve personality-driven Christianity by pretending examples do not matter. It puts examples in the right order: faithful leaders may be imitated precisely where their lives visibly imitate Christ.
