Out of the Ark — Worship, the Unchanged Heart, and a Preserved World
Genesis 8:15–22 completes the Flood deliverance. God tells Noah and his family to leave the ark and commands the living creatures to go out, breed abundantly, be fruitful, and multiply. Creation language is unmistakably being reused: life is released into a world that has emerged again from the waters.
Noah responds by building an altar and offering burnt offerings from the clean animals and birds. The LORD receives the offering as a pleasing aroma and then makes a remarkable commitment concerning the world. Yet the reason given is surprising: the human heart is still inclined toward evil. Before the Flood, Genesis 6 described the thoughts of the human heart as continually evil. After the Flood, the basic heart problem remains.
