Called, Kept, and Called to Contend
Jude begins by reminding believers who they are before he tells them what danger they face. They are people God has called, loved, and kept for Jesus Christ. Then Jude changes direction. He had wanted to write about the salvation Christians share, but dangerous teachers have slipped into the community, so he now urges believers to defend the faith that was once entrusted to God’s people.
Where this fits in the Bible: the New Testament repeatedly treats “the faith” as the message and way of life handed down by Jesus’ apostles, not merely as a private feeling. Jude therefore joins the wider biblical call to receive that message faithfully and not reinvent it.
