A Good Matter Concerning the King
Psalm 45 is a royal wedding song associated with the sons of Korah. It praises a king whose speech is gracious and whose royal vocation is linked with truth, meekness, and righteousness. The language is elevated because the poem celebrates an ideal Davidic ruler at a moment of dynastic importance.
Christians have long read the whole psalm messianically, and Hebrews makes that trajectory explicit in verses 6–7. But that does not require treating every wedding detail in verses 1–5 as a one-to-one prophecy of Jesus. A careful reading should introduce the historical royal setting first and then show how the New Testament carries its royal ideal toward the Son.
