The Location and Foundations of the Temple
2 Chronicles 3:1–2 forms the movement “The Location and Foundations of the Temple.” Solomon begins building the temple in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, at the site associated with the LORD’s appearance to David and Ornan’s threshing floor. Genesis 22 is the only other biblical passage that uses the name Moriah, placing Abraham’s testing in “the land of Moriah.” The canonical association is important, but the claim that Genesis identifies the exact same rock or precise summit should be stated as a traditional/geographical inference rather than as an explicit sentence in Genesis.
In the book’s larger argument, The temple is anchored to Jerusalem, David’s altar site, and the rare biblical place-name Moriah; sacred space, sacrifice, kingship, and God’s presence converge.
