Ungodly Speech as Scorching Fire
A path can feel right and still lead to death, so desire and intuition require testing. The sayings move through work, destructive speech, violence, aging, and self-control before ending with a striking providence claim: even the lot cast into the lap remains under the LORD’s disposing.
Proverbs compares corrupt speech to scorching fire, and James expands the tongue-as-fire image into a major warning about how a small member can set an entire course of life ablaze. The shared imagery gives the connection unusual strength.
