Your Body Is for the Lord and a Temple of the Holy Spirit
Paul answers slogans about freedom and appetite by insisting that not everything lawful is beneficial and that he will not be mastered by anything. The body is not disposable. It is “for the Lord,” destined for resurrection, and united to Christ.
Paul quotes Genesis 2:24—“the two shall be one flesh”—to explain why sexual union cannot be treated as morally trivial. He then says the believer’s body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and has been bought with a price. In chapter 3 the congregation corporately is God’s temple; here Paul applies temple language directly to the embodied believer.
