The Tithe of the Land
Deuteronomy 14:22–27 is the movement “The Tithe of the Land.” Read it inside Moses’ final covenant instruction to Israel on the eastern side of the Jordan as the people prepare for life in the land. The section opens with: “Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.” It closes with: “And the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.”
The immediate task here is to understand the covenant instruction in its own setting before asking whether later Scripture develops the same theme. No later connection should be forced merely to make the section look fuller.
