WHAT IS HAPPENING The mining poem contrasts human technical brilliance with the impossibility of extracting wisdom from the earth like ore. Wisdom belongs to God, and for human beings its practical center is fearing the Lord and turning away from evil.
THIS MOVEMENT The section’s own focus is “God Knows Wisdom’s Way.” It begins, “God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.” and closes, “And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”.
