Despise Not the Chastening of the LORD
Wisdom is presented as covenant-shaped trust: remember teaching, bind mercy and truth to the heart, trust the LORD rather than autonomous understanding, honor him with substance, and receive his correction as a beloved child. The chapter joins ordinary decisions, worship, wealth, health, and discipline under one governing posture of dependence on God.
Hebrews 12:5–6 directly quotes Proverbs 3:11–12 and interprets divine discipline as the loving correction of sons. The apostolic use turns the proverb into explicit theology of suffering, sonship, and formative discipline.
Proverbs 3:11–12 says that the LORD corrects the one he loves; in Revelation 3:19 the risen Jesus says, “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.” Revelation places the wisdom pattern of the LORD’s loving discipline on Jesus’ own lips, making this a high-value Christological reuse of Proverbs.
