The LORD Gives Wisdom
The son is told to receive, treasure, incline, cry out, seek, and search. Wisdom requires active pursuit, yet the passage immediately guards against self-made wisdom: the LORD gives wisdom, and knowledge and understanding come from his mouth. Divine gift and human pursuit are therefore not rivals. The seeker searches like a miner, but what he finds is wisdom God himself gives and protection God provides.
Proverbs says the LORD gives wisdom; James tells the person who lacks wisdom to ask God, who gives generously. The two texts agree that wisdom is not self-produced expertise but a gift sought from God.
Proverbs roots wisdom in the LORD as its giver; James distinguishes earthly wisdom from wisdom that comes from above and describes its righteous fruit. Together they present true wisdom as a gift from God recognized by moral character.
