Joseph Rejected, Then Exalted as Deliverer
Acts 7:9–16 centers on joseph rejected, then exalted as deliverer. Stephen retells Joseph: patriarchal jealousy leads to sale into Egypt, yet God is with Joseph, delivers him, grants favor and wisdom, and makes him governor. Famine then brings the family to Egypt, and Stephen summarizes Jacob’s death and burial.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. Joseph’s rejected-then-exalted deliverer pattern prepares Stephen’s repeated accusation that Israel can resist the very agents God raises up. The pattern strongly mirrors Jesus but Acts never pauses to declare Joseph an inspired 'type' of Christ.
