The LORD Directs Steps and Searches the Inner Person
Human steps ultimately depend on the LORD, making complete self-understanding impossible. Vows require caution, rulers need mercy and truth, the human spirit functions like the LORD’s lamp searching inward places, and discipline is portrayed as reaching beneath surface behavior.
Proverbs says the human spirit is the lamp of the LORD searching inward parts and that human steps are directed by God; Jeremiah says the LORD searches the heart and tests the inward parts.
