The Strong Tower and the Imagined Strong City
Negligent work is destructive, but the sharper contrast is between two places of security. The name of the LORD is a strong tower into which the righteous run, while the wealthy imagine riches as an unassailable wall; pride then prepares the way for destruction, humility for honor.
Proverbs calls the name of the LORD a strong tower in contrast with the rich person’s imagined fortified city; Psalm 18 calls the LORD rock, fortress, deliverer, and high tower. Both relocate security from possessions toward the LORD himself.
