God gave Moses specific instructions. He was to speak everything God commanded, and Aaron would relay those words to Pharaoh. But here came the unexpected twist: “I will harden Pharaoh’s heart.” At first glance, this might seem puzzling. Why would God intentionally make Pharaoh more resistant?
The answer lies in God’s overarching purpose: “I will multiply My signs and wonders in Egypt.” Pharaoh’s hardened heart would become the backdrop for God’s glory. His resistance would become the canvas for divine judgment and mercy. This wasn’t about a single act of deliverance—it was about unveiling the supremacy of God over all false powers.
As Moses and Aaron stood before Pharaoh, they obeyed exactly as the Lord commanded. Aaron threw down his staff, and it became a serpent. Pharaoh called in his sorcerers and magicians, and they did the same. But then came the crucial sign: Aaron’s staff swallowed up theirs. It wasn’t just a parlor trick. It was a prophetic act—God’s authority would consume every imitation, every false sign, every demonic power.
Still, Pharaoh’s heart was hard. He would not listen, just as God had said. But this was only the beginning.
