The Path of the Just and the Way of the Wicked
Proverbs again uses the image of two roads. The righteous path is like dawn growing brighter toward full day, while the wicked walk in darkness so deep they do not even understand what makes them stumble; the contrast anticipates Scripture’s later light-and-darkness language.
Psalm 1 contrasts the blessed way of the righteous with the way of the wicked that perishes; Proverbs 4 contrasts the brightening path of the just with the dark way of the wicked. Both therefore frame life as a path whose end matters.
Proverbs compares the righteous path to growing light and the wicked way to darkness; Ecclesiastes agrees that wisdom excels folly as light excels darkness, yet immediately adds that both wise and fool die.
