Coworkers, Prisoners, a Physician, and Demas
The greetings open a window into the network around Paul: Aristarchus the fellow prisoner, Mark the cousin of Barnabas, Jesus called Justus, Epaphras, Luke the beloved physician, and Demas. Mark’s presence is especially striking after the conflict over him in Acts 15, while Demas becomes sobering when later Scripture reports that he deserted Paul. Epaphras is portrayed as laboring fervently in prayer for Colossae, Laodicea, and Hierapolis.
Where this fits in the story: Acts and the letters together let readers trace real people through moments of failure, restoration, endurance, and departure. Ministry in the New Testament is deeply collaborative, not a one-man project.
