Arise, O LORD: Salvation Belongs to God
The prayer ends with a call for God to arise and rescue. Its battle imagery is forceful because David asks God to reverse the power of those attacking him. The final confession broadens beyond David: “Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people.” Deliverance is God’s possession and gift.
That confession belongs naturally inside the Bible’s larger redemption story, culminating for Christians in salvation through Jesus. Yet Psalm 3:8 is not cited by the New Testament as a prediction of the cross. The responsible bridge is canonical: the same God who saves his threatened king and blesses his people ultimately acts decisively in Christ. The verse can therefore carry gospel significance without being relabeled as direct messianic prophecy.
