Amaziah Dies; Jeroboam II Restores Israel’s Border
Amaziah is assassinated while Jeroboam II expands Israel in fulfillment of the word spoken through Jonah son of Amittai. Amaziah’s partial obedience and pride are set beside the unexpected mercy God shows sinful Israel under Jeroboam II. The chapter also gives an important historical anchor by naming Jonah son of Amittai, connecting the royal history to the prophet later sent to Nineveh.
