Jeconiah, Zerubbabel, and the Line Beyond Exile
Exile does not end the genealogy. Jeconiah’s descendants continue through Shealtiel and Zerubbabel and then into later generations. That matters because Babylon removed a Davidic king from Jerusalem but did not erase David’s house. Zerubbabel later becomes a major restoration figure in Ezra and Haggai, and Matthew includes Jeconiah, Shealtiel, and Zerubbabel in Jesus’ royal genealogy. The section turns a list of names into a quiet statement of hope: judgment interrupted the monarchy, but it did not cancel God’s promise.
