Hezekiah’s Prayer and Isaiah’s Answer
Hezekiah spreads Sennacherib’s letter before the LORD and prays to the God enthroned above the cherubim; Isaiah announces Jerusalem’s deliverance. The conflict with Assyria becomes explicitly theological: Hezekiah seeks Isaiah, spreads the threatening letter before the LORD, and prays that all kingdoms may know who God is. The deliverance of Jerusalem belongs beside Assyrian royal inscriptions as a place where biblical theology and external imperial evidence can be compared without forcing either source to say more than it does.
