The Yoke Is Broken and Good Tidings Reach Judah
The focus turns directly toward Judah. Assyria’s numbers and apparent security will not save it. The LORD promises to break the Assyrian yoke and tear away Judah’s bonds—the same larger biblical pattern in which oppressive imperial power is first permitted and then judged.
The final image is deliberately joyful: feet appear on the mountains carrying good tidings and publishing peace. The wording strongly overlaps Isaiah’s “good tidings” herald language. Here the news is concrete: Judah may keep her feasts and fulfill her vows because the violent invader will no longer keep passing through the land.
