Strengthening Disciples and Reporting God’s Open Door
Acts 14:21–28 centers on strengthening disciples and reporting god’s open door. After making disciples at Derbe, Paul and Barnabas retrace dangerous territory, strengthening believers and teaching that entry into God’s kingdom involves many tribulations. They appoint elders in each church with prayer and fasting, return through Pisidia and Pamphylia to Antioch, and report how God opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. Mission is not only first decisions; Acts emphasizes return, strengthening, leadership, perseverance, prayer, and accountable reporting. Suffering and kingdom hope remain joined, while the Gentile opening is credited to God.
