David’s Fallen Booth and the Nations Called by God’s Name
After the dismantling of false security, Amos promises that God will raise “the tabernacle [sukkah] of David that is fallen,” repair its breaches, and rebuild it. In the Hebrew text, the restored Davidic order possesses the remnant of Edom and nations called by the LORD’s name. Acts 15:16–18 quotes the Greek form of this passage at the Jerusalem Council, where “the remnant of mankind” seeks the Lord and Gentiles called by God’s name are being gathered. James treats this prophecy as Scripture that agrees with God’s present work among uncircumcised Gentiles. This is not merely a Christian tradition imposed centuries later; it is explicit inspired New Testament interpretation. Within the completed canon, David’s fallen house therefore belongs to the messianic trajectory that reaches Jesus, Son of David, and the inclusion of the nations under his saving reign. The Greek/Hebrew wording difference is important and is explained rather than hidden.
