From This Day Will I Bless You
Haggai makes the people look backward at empty heaps, disappointing wine yields, blasting, mildew, and hail—and then makes them mark a date. The visible harvest has not yet changed; seed is still not safely in the barn and the vine, fig, pomegranate, and olive have not yet produced. Nevertheless the oracle ends, “from this day will I bless you.” The promise comes before the crop can prove it.
Where this fits in the story: Deuteronomy 28 names blasting, mildew, failed harvest, and frustrated agricultural labor among covenant curses. Haggai deliberately reverses the direction of the story from curse toward blessing after renewed obedience.
