Be Strong: My Spirit Remains among You
The second dated oracle lands on the twenty-first day of the seventh month—the final day of the Feast of Booths. Some people could still remember Solomon’s temple before its destruction, and the new work looked painfully small by comparison. Haggai does not deny the difference. He answers it with a threefold “be strong,” the command to work, the promise “I am with you,” and an explicit appeal to the covenant made when Israel came out of Egypt.
Where this fits in the story: 1 Kings 8 locates Solomon’s temple dedication in the seventh month at the feast, when the glory of the LORD filled the house. Haggai speaks about the former temple’s glory during that same festival season. The calendar itself makes the comparison vivid.
