Pride in the Heights — Edom Will Be Brought Down
Edom trusted its elevated, rocky homeland and asked, in effect, “Who can bring me down?” The LORD answers the boast directly: height, defenses, and even an eagle-like nest among the stars cannot place a nation beyond his judgment. The issue is not mountains themselves but pride built on apparent invulnerability.
Where this fits in the story: Genesis identifies Esau with Edom, and the Torah gives Esau’s descendants territory in Seir while repeatedly treating Edom and Israel as related peoples. Obadiah now addresses that brother-nation after its relationship with Judah has become one of hostility.
