From Figures to Plain Speech: Peace in the Overcoming Christ
Jesus says the hour is coming when he will speak plainly about the Father. The disciples announce that they now understand, but Jesus immediately predicts that they will scatter and leave him alone—though the Father remains with him. The farewell discourse closes with one of John’s most memorable reversals: in the world they will have tribulation, yet they can have peace because Jesus has overcome the world. The promise does not deny suffering; it locates suffering inside the victory about to be achieved through cross and resurrection.
