Dawn, Depths, Death, and the Breadth of Earth
Job 38:12–21 — “Dawn, Depths, Death, and the Breadth of Earth.”
WHAT IS HAPPENING The LORD finally speaks—but does not reveal the heavenly wager or give Job a tidy causal explanation. Instead, God questions Job about earth, sea, dawn, death, weather, stars, and animals, widening the frame from “Why did this happen to me?” to “How much of reality can a human actually govern or comprehend?”
THIS MOVEMENT The section’s own focus is “Dawn, Depths, Death, and the Breadth of Earth.” It begins, “Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;” and closes, “Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?”.
