Proverbs 22:9
Generosity toward the poor receives blessing, while oppression and manipulative gain are condemned. The LORD guards knowledge, truthful and gracious speech matters, ancient boundaries protect inheritance, and parental discipline appears within a larger concern for forming children rather than exploiting the vulnerable.
Jewish and wider ancient traditions associate the eye with character; 'good eye' can denote generosity and 'evil eye' stinginess/envy. Because Matthew places the saying between treasure and Mammon, generosity is a serious contextual option but not the only proposed interpretation.
