The Royal Line from Solomon to the Exile
The genealogy follows the kings of Judah from Solomon through the generations that end in the Babylonian crisis. This is the royal backbone of the book: the Davidic line survives good kings, bad kings, reform, apostasy, invasion, and finally the loss of the throne. Matthew later overlaps substantially with this line in presenting Jesus as the Son of David. Chronicles itself does not yet show the final Messiah, but it preserves the dynastic history without which the New Testament claim would be difficult to see.
