Forgiveness, Healing, and the Son of Man's Authority
Jesus first tells the paralyzed man that his sins are forgiven, provoking the scribes’ charge of blasphemy. He then heals the man so that the visible act demonstrates the invisible authority claim: the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.
Where this fits in the story: forgiveness ultimately belongs to God’s covenant mercy, while Daniel 7’s “son of man” receives authority and dominion from the Ancient of Days.
Where Scripture takes it next: Matthew’s Son of Man sayings move toward suffering, vindication, heavenly coming, and judgment.
