Passage Overview · Free · 1 Chronicles 2:9–15
Judah, Perez, and the Road to David
Judah receives special attention because the Chronicler is tracing the line that reaches David. The record does not erase scandal: Tamar is named as the mother of Perez and Zerah, and the family line continues through Hezron, Ram, Amminadab, Nahshon, Salmon, Boaz, Obed, and Jesse. Ruth preserves the same closing line to David, and Matthew later uses this ancestry in the genealogy of Jesus. The significance is not that every person was exemplary, but that God preserved the royal line through real and often complicated families.
