Matthew 3 — Overview
Matthew 3 opens with a voice from Isaiah: prepare the Lord's way in the wilderness. John announces that God's kingdom is near, calls Israel to repentance, and warns that family ancestry alone is not a substitute for faithful fruit. Then Jesus enters the Jordan. The Spirit descends and the Father's words identify him with the Bible's royal Son and Spirit-filled Servant.
