The Incomparable LORD Rules Sea, Nations, and Throne
Before returning to David, the psalm magnifies the God who made the covenant. No heavenly being is comparable to the LORD; he rules the raging sea, crushes Rahab, owns north and south, and establishes a throne on righteousness, justice, mercy, and truth. The covenant can be trusted because of the identity of the covenant-maker.
Revelation’s throne and kingship imagery lives in the same scriptural world, and some scholars see echoes of Psalm 89 elsewhere in Revelation. A careful reading should not multiply speculative one-to-one links here. The section’s own logic is enough: divine sovereignty over creation and heavenly beings grounds confidence in the promise to David.
