Ariel Besieged, Yet Her Enemies Vanish Like a Dream
Isaiah 29:1–8 is a distinct movement within Isaiah’s woe-and-salvation section. It centers on Ariel Besieged, Yet Her Enemies Vanish Like a Dream. In Isaiah’s own horizon, false refuges are exposed while Zion’s future, the righteous king, and the highway of return come into view. This unit shows how the book sets human pride, false refuge, or covenant failure against the LORD’s holiness, judgment, saving action, and promised restoration. Later canonical uses are explained separately: explicit New Testament interpretation is labeled explicit, while echoes, trajectories, and foreshadowing are kept at their proper evidence level.
