Joseph, the Women, the New Tomb, and Sabbath Rest
Joseph of Arimathaea, a council member who had not consented to the decision, receives Jesus’ body, wraps it, and lays it in a new tomb. Women from Galilee observe the location and prepare spices, then rest on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
Where this fits in the story: burial confirms death and preserves continuity between the crucified body, the known tomb, and the empty-tomb witnesses. Luke also lets Sabbath rest create a narrative pause between death and resurrection.
