After a Night of Prayer, Twelve Are Named
Jesus spends the night in prayer and then names twelve apostles. The number is difficult to miss in Israel’s story: twelve tribes formed the covenant people, and Jesus now appoints twelve authorized representatives around himself.
Where this fits in the story: Luke presents renewal, not random organization. The kingdom mission is gathering a people around the Messiah, and the Twelve function symbolically as well as practically.
Where Scripture takes it next: the Twelve receive authority and are sent in Luke 9; after Judas’s fall, Acts 1 deliberately restores the apostolic number before Pentecost, showing that Luke himself regards the symbolism as significant.
