Jesus Goes to the Feast of Booths
Jesus’ brothers urge him to display himself publicly, but John emphasizes that Jesus’ “time” is governed by the Father’s purpose rather than family pressure or public strategy. Jesus eventually goes to the Feast of Booths privately. The festival, commanded in Leviticus 23, remembers Israel’s wilderness dwelling and celebrates harvest; later Jewish sources also describe water-drawing and great temple illumination associated with the feast. Those later traditions can illuminate John 7–8, but they must be used with dating caution rather than simply projected backward without qualification.
