Restricted Access and the First Tent’s Lesson
Priests regularly entered the first room, but the high priest entered the inner room alone and only once each year, with blood offered for himself and the people’s sins. Hebrews says the Holy Spirit signified through this arrangement that the way into the holiest had not yet been openly manifested while the first tent retained its symbolic standing. Gifts, sacrifices, washings, and regulations could address ritual worship but could not bring the conscience to final completion. The Day of Atonement from Leviticus 16 is the central background. Restriction itself becomes a divinely given lesson about the need for greater access.
