Blood Given for Atonement
Where this fits in the story: Genesis 9:1–7 — preserved existing connection 272. Blood is bound to creaturely life before Sinai.
Where Scripture takes it next: Hebrews 9:18–22 — very strong inspired development of blood, purification, covenant, and forgiveness under the law.
Evidence boundary: YHWH gives/assigns blood for the altar; the text does not teach magical power intrinsic to blood. The phrase explaining how blood makes atonement has real grammatical/theological debate.
Coming Savior connection: Leviticus 17:11 explains why sacrificial blood matters: creaturely life is in the blood, and God gives blood upon the altar for atonement. The New Testament takes that sacrificial logic to its climax in Jesus, especially in Hebrews’ teaching about Christ’s blood and once-for-all self-offering. The point is not that blood has magical power in itself; the biblical logic is life given by God for atonement, culminating in Christ giving His own life.
Sacrifice / priesthood lens: Leviticus 17:11 explicitly joins life, blood, altar, and atonement, but the Hebrew grammar does not settle every later Christian theory of how atonement works. The safest starting point is what the verse actually says: life belongs to God, blood is not ordinary food, and God assigns blood an altar-atonement role.
