Prayer: Know the Hope and Christ’s Exalted Rule

Paul prays that believers will receive wisdom to grasp the hope of God’s calling, the riches of his inheritance, and the immeasurable greatness of the power displayed when God raised Christ and seated him at his right hand. Christ is placed above every rule, authority, power, dominion, and name, and all things are put under his feet.

Where this fits in the story: the right-hand language strongly recalls Psalm 110:1, while the subjection of all things under Christ’s feet recalls Psalm 8. Ephesians gathers Israel’s royal and human-dominion hopes into the risen and exalted Messiah.
