Revelation 5:6–13 — the slain and worshiped Lamb
Revelation 5:5–7 deliberately moves from what John hears—the Lion of Judah and Root of David—to what he sees—a Lamb standing as though slain. Royal Messiah and sacrificial Lamb are not competing identities but one person. The Lamb’s victory qualifies Him to take the scroll and advance God’s purposes.
Revelation 5:6–9 presents the slain-yet-standing Lamb as the center of heavenly worship. The Lamb’s death has purchased people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation. Revelation therefore joins sacrificial imagery, resurrection victory, and worldwide redemption: the One who conquers does so through His blood.
Revelation 5:8–14 expands worship from the elders and living creatures to countless angels and finally every creature. The new song celebrates the Lamb’s worthiness because He was slain and redeemed a people for God. By the end of the scene, blessing and honor are directed to the One on the throne and to the Lamb together.
Revelation 5:9–10 celebrates redemption “out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” and the formation of a kingdom and priests unto God. The priestly-kingdom language reaches back to Israel’s calling in Exodus 19 while expanding the redeemed community across the nations. The Lamb creates a worshiping people who will reign under God.
