The Father’s House, the Way, and Seeing the Father in Jesus
Jesus comforts troubled disciples with the promise of a place in the Father’s house and of his return. Thomas asks for the way, and Jesus answers with a person rather than a route: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Philip then asks to see the Father, prompting Jesus to state that seeing him is seeing the Father because the Father dwells and works in him. The language does not collapse Father and Son into one person; throughout the discourse Jesus speaks to and about the Father. Instead, John presents Jesus as the unique revealer and access point to the Father.
