Day of Atonement: Affliction and Sabbath Rest
Where this fits in the story: Leviticus 16 — Certain direct root. Chapter 16 gives the ritual; Chapter 23 gives the calendar/assembly/rest requirement.
Where Scripture takes it next: Hebrews 9:1–14 — Certain inspired interpretation of the annual high-priestly inner-sanctuary system.
Evidence boundary: Leviticus says “afflict/humble yourselves”; fasting is the traditional interpretation, not the literal lexical verb.
Feast fulfillment calibration: Hebrews gives Day-of-Atonement Christology unusually strong inspired support by contrasting annual high-priestly entry with Christ’s once-for-all priestly work. A future link between Yom Kippur, Israel’s repentance, Zechariah 12, and Romans 11 can be discussed as an eschatological proposal, but Scripture never fixes that future turning to the tenth day of the seventh month.
